Policy and Advocacy Work
Welcome to WSSWA's Policy and Advocacy Committee!
As a committee, we hold a strong mission and vision.
Mission:
The WSSWA Policy & Advocacy (P&A) Committee monitors school and family related legislation, creates action alerts for WSSWA members for education related issues, lobbies the state and federal government for pro-education policy, and supports and protects licensure.
Vision:
By making these efforts, the P&A Committee seeks to increase the number of school social workers across the state so all students have access to a highly qualified school social worker. Through this, we work to empower school social workers to effectively advocate at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels to improve educational outcomes for not only their students and families, but students and families across the state.
Together, we work with our lobbyist and members to identify essential legislative items and policy needs that can be brought to the forefront with:
- the Wisconsin Senate and State Assembly.
- NASW-WI
- DPI
- Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS)
- Other organizations as identified
We also work to educate our members in education-related policy issues, and provide advocacy and professional learning to support social workers looking to make change at the local, state, and national level. Whether you are looking to improve your own school, district, community, state, or our country, we are here to support you!
